Congratulations to the COMM class of 2022!

Our seniors have made some amazing work during their time at Simmons, both as part of their college careers, and independently as early-career professionals. Below is a selection of work created in a wide variety of media. Students are featured in alphabetical order. Click on their name below to be taken to their work, or scroll through and enjoy!

Shania Ambrose—Web Design & Development; Cinema & Media Studies

Shania has a wide variety of web-based work created for courses and independently. For the storytelling seminar, she and her classmates worked on a site highlighting the benefits of a communications degree.

As part of the Passionate Leaders Project, Shania’s work uses digital technologies to bring the visual cultures of indigenous communities to a wider audience. In a presentation she gave to the undergraduate symposium, you can see the importance of communities retaining agency over their narratives in her work. The VR gallery she built in conjunction with the Igorot community can be viewed here: Cordigo Artspace—Perfectly Flawed.

See more of Shania’s work in hackathons on her devpost page.

 Kelsey Benedict—Graphic Design

Kelsey’s work mixes fine art and design, as you can see in her portfolio. Her design work suits the style of her content and audience, while her personal style shines through in her artwork—mixing mandalas and tattoo-inspired imagery. In all her work, you can see the attention to detail and keen eye that makes her stand out.

 Catherine Bernard

Catherine is an adaptable storyteller who explores the human experience through journalism, audio, and video production. As the News Editor for the Simmons Voice, she has not only produced her own work but empowered student reporters and editors to express themselves through their work, while adhering to a strong standard for journalistic integrity.

Below are two samples of Catherine’s media work:

 Dani Caisse—Media Arts; Graphic Design

Dani is one of the multi-talented design leads of this year’s CommTracks magazine. Beyond co-designing and project managing this collaborative project, she is also an accomplished photographer. Dani is passionate about visual communication, be it through photography, video, or design. In her photography work, she specializes in black and white film photography and you can see her portfolio of published photography here.

 Katie Cole—Journalism; Radio

Katie is a multimedia journalist, specializing in audio journalism. She is the editor-in-chief of the Simmons Voice, and her portfolio features work published in the Voice and Shark, along with an article for PBS NewsHour and social media work done for internships. She is well versed in social media content creation and am always looking to bring different interactive elements into her stories.

Marissa Johnson—PR/MarComm; Web Design & Development

Marissa is our other design lead of this year’s CommTracks magazine, helping to shepherd and shape this entire publication. Marissa seamlessly transitions between writing, social media, marketing, web design and graphic design. Her animated webpage ‘Evening Star‘ highlights her coding and visual storytelling skills, while her Environmental Health Blog demonstrates her ability to communicate as effectively through text as image.

 Ailia Rochefort

Ailia is a multi-media communicator who utilizes photography and writing to engage diverse audiences. A sample of her photographs can be found here, along with this article: Simmons Athletes Face Uncertain Seasons.

Addie Sargent—Graphic Design; Web Design & Development

Addie is a designer, photographer, and web developer whose work explores retro and modernist themes for contemporary audiences. Addie pairs the clean lines of vector graphics with calligraphic details that evoke the imperfections of the handmade. Check out Addie’s portfolio on Behance to get a sample of what they can make.

 Lennon Sherburne—Radio

Lennon’s documentary podcast ‘Let’s Do The Time Warp‘ was one of 10 finalists in NPR’s Student Podcast Challenge and was nominated for Best Documentary by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System. Lennon’s pair their political science major with a radio minor in order to bring authentic queer narratives to a mainstream audience. Their written and audio work centers around identity politics and narrative storytelling, highlighting voices and stories that our political systems often forget.

You can hear their 2020 audio documentary as introduced by WBUR here, and stream more of Lennon’s work on their Soundcloud.
